Although this distinction is not yet clearly established, I would say that cybersecurity deals only with digital information, while information security deals also with information in other media (e.g. paper).

Hi Dejan,

Another key differentiator for what defines Cyber Security relative to Information Security would be that Cyber Security relates to securing anything and evertying that travels over the Internet or in CyberSpace. WiFi, Data in Motion, security protocols such as SFTP, TLS, and others.

All these are used to ensure that data being transferred over the Internet, and any/all devices connected to the Internet, are protected and secure.

Information Security sometimes refers more to securing the information and data that lives within an organization, regardless of how that information is shared publicly, or with other remote users. Cyber Security kicks in when those computers and the data interact with the Internet and public airways.

Cyber Security will play an increasing role as the IoT (Internet of Things) develops.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Michael - I would only add that cybersecurity is not limited to Internet only - basically it is about any computer network.
